DS are water and organic solvent mixable and can be
used at any stage in the finish operations from spray dyeing
to final lacquering; they are compatible with anionic or
nonionic products normally used, as well as with emulsion and
solvent lacquers. They cannot be used in two components PU
The increasing popularity of
the natural or unfinished look has brought about a great many
changes in finishing technology.
One of the most important developments has been the
preparation of low VOC dyes that provide lively and more
brilliant colors. In
addition, these new dyes possess superior light fastness and
fade resistance to those previously used.
This series of liquid dyes is
far more environmentally suited for use in today’s leather
finishing. These high
flash, low VOC dyes may be cut with water or solvents for use
in stain coats. They
also have better compatibility with aqueous resins and
auxiliaries than other dye series.
However, they may still be used in lacquer emulsions
and solvent borne lacquers.
With current regulations
calling for reduced volatile organic compounds, and leather
finishers using more waterborne systems, Leather Technologies new low VOC DS series dyes are sure to be an asset to the
leather industries and the environment.
The base coat finishes, resin
finishes or lacquering quantities to be used will vary
according to the required depth of shade, we recommend 10-50
gr./liter. For spray
dyeing DS can be used with water and organic solvents such as
ethyl glycol (cello solve); ethyl alcohol; isopropyl alcohol
or ethyl glycol substitute.
